Sydney FC have secured the re-signing of highly-rated young defender Aaron Gurd on a new two-year contract.
The Sky Blues have moved quickly to tie down the in-demand 21-year old following a series of impressive performances, after making his A-Leagues and Australia Cup debut this season.
Gurd, who joined the Sky Blues Academy as a 14-year old seven years ago, is delighted to have earned his new deal.
“It’s a surreal feeling and a really big step, but I feel I’m ready for my next story,” he said.
“It feels amazing and shows all the hard work that I’ve been putting in has been seen by the coaches.
“The faith they have in me gives me a great feeling to sign for two more years.
“I really enjoy being at this club,” he continued. “I dreamt of it as a young kid and I’ve been given opportunities here.
“My game has definitely improved having to defend against the quality we have in the squad every training session.”
Head Coach Steve Corica believes Gurd is progressing extremely well.
“We are very pleased to re-sign Aaron for another two seasons,” he said.
“His performances this year have improved with every game and he is showing the potential we know he has.
“He has learned a lot since he joined the Men’s squad and he will only get better.”
Gurd will upgrade from a scholarship to a full-time professional contract starting in the Isuzu-UTE A-League 2023-24 season.
