Women looking to cement top spot

In what is set to be Princess Ibini’s 100th match for Sydney FC and the Liberty A-League Women’s, the two top teams in the league will face off in Victoria.

Ibini who began her career in 2015 with the Sky Blues as a second half substitute, has scored 20 goals across the competition in 99 games and will be only the second woman to reach the 100 game mark for Sydney FC following Teresa Polias.

Ibini celebrating her goal in Newcastle

The 22 year old was on the scoresheet once again in Newcastle, scoring in back to back games as her side blew the Jets out of the water with three goals in the opening seven minutes, running out 4-2 winners.

For Ante Juric’s side, they have began to find their feet as the competition nears the halfway mark, with his team only losing once, winning the other seven.

Of great delight to Sky Blue fans is that the goals have been shared around with contributions from the midfield, wings and forwards throughout the previous matches providing Juric with a tough selection choice each week.

Sarah Hunter from the midfield has scored in three of the last four matches, and on Wednesday will be hoping to find the net once again against a team which is yet to lose a match.

The newcomers to the league, Western United have recruited well in their inaugural season in the Liberty A-League and find themselves yet to lose a match, scoring 14 and conceding 5.

In terms of players, they come in strong with the likes of Chloe Logarzo and Sydney Cummings with both contributing to five goals so far this season.

Wins have been ground out from the Victorians, leaving it late against Adelaide and taking all three points against Melbourne City as well as Melbourne Victory too in their opening match of the season.

Mark Toscano at the helm has been instrumental into everything that the team have achieved so far this season and sit level on points with the Sky Blues, despite playing a game less due to games cancelled due to extreme heat.

With a number of Americans on the park for the hosts, it very well could come down to the internationalists to leave their mark on the fixture with Jessica McDonald on one side and Sydney FC’s Madison Haley on the other.

This match, between the two form sides of the competition will surely not disappoint at City Vista Recreation when Green and Black meets Sky Blue. Two coaches who have both been nominated for Coach of the Month will be looking to gain the upper hand on the other, and with Princess Ibini’s milestone match, this is not to be missed.
