Necevski Primed For Spurs Encounter

With the prospect of facing off against one of the hottest prospects in English Football looming on Saturday, Sydney FC shot stopper Ivan Necevski is relishing the challenge facing the Sky Blues at ANZ Stadium.

Having faced off against the cream of the A-League’s strikers, Necevski said Saturday will be a completely different proposition for the Sydney FC squad.

“We’re very excited that Spurs are coming out to play us, especially in front of such a big crowd,” Necevski said.

“It’s going to be good and coming from an Arsenal fan there’s no other team we’d like to play against and beat.

“They’re coming out after their season has finished so I think it will be a good game, we’re coming off a good season and so are they.

“There’s obviously a bit of a step up in players compared to the boys we have in the A-League, no disrespect to them,” he continued.

“Going up against players like Harry Kane and his mob, they’ve been banging in goals for club and country so it’s going to be a good challenge for all the boys and one to definitely put in the scrapbook and the memory bank.

“Hopefully we can put on a good show and if I do get to play on Saturday night hopefully I can do a jersey swap with Lloris if he’s interested.”

In preparation for the game there was also a step up in duties for Necevski, as he took charge of the goalkeeper training in the absence, for now, of a goalkeeping coach.

“It’s something that I want to do when I finish playing and it would be a good transition for me when I finish playing to become a coach,” he said.

“I’ll take Monday as a bit of work experience and I’m there if Arnie ever needs a hand with the keepers.  It’s good that he could trust me with that.

“Coming in you want to be as serious as possible although Vedran and young Anthony were giving me a bit of stick, it was good to see what it’s like to be on the other side of the fence from being a player to a coach and a good experience for me.

“It was a good session, ten out of ten!  I thought it was good and didn’t make us dive too much and I think we got what we wanted out of it first day back after a week off after the Grand Final.”
