During the off-season Sydney FC are looking at the league in numbers as we highlight the statistics of some of our key players throughout our record breaking 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.
An ever present between the sticks for Sydney FC, Vedran Janjetovic enjoyed a stellar Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season as he finished as the leading goalkeeper in the league.
Janjetovic shut out the opposition nine times over the course of the season to lead the league for clean sheets kept, as he conceded only 39 goals over 29 games.
Facing 108 shots in total, Janjetovic made 69 saves to finish with a 63.9% shots to save ratio, with 50 of those saves seeing the Sky Blues custodian hold on to the ball while the remainder saw him punch the ball clear.
The 27 year old shot stopper was a mainstay of Head Coach Graham Arnold’s squad, starting all 29 games and playing every minute of each match for a total of 2610 minutes played as Sydney FC finished runners up over the course of the regular season and in the 2015 Grand Final.
Tasked with starting the attack from the back, Janjetovic ended the season with an 84.5% passing accuracy in his own half, with more than 60% of his 735 passes finding their target over the entire length of the field.
A highlight for any goalkeeper, Janjetovic made one penalty save during the season as thwarted the Central Coast Mariners Mitchell Duke from 12 yards in a 2-0 Sky Blues win in November.
Vedran Janjetovic will be hoping he can replicate this form next season, and with praise from Chelsea FC glovesman Petr Cech following the two sides recent friendly, Janjetovic should approach season 2015/16 high on confidence.
“He (Janjetovic) did very well,” Cech told reporters after the friendly match on Tuesday 2 June at ANZ Stadium.
“We had some chances at the start and he made some good saves especially at the start of the second half.”
