Sydney FC have set a new Hyundai A-League record for undefeated matches away from home after a dominant display against the Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium.

The Sky Blues are now undefeated in 16 consecutive regular season away games after Alex Brosque’s late winner ensured Graham Arnold’s men came back to Sydney with their first three points of the season.
Brosque nodded home Alex Gersbach’s right wing corner with two minutes remaining to cap off a second half performance which saw them pepper the Newcastle Jets goal.
Sydney FC now have four points from two Hyundai A-League games and head into the Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium next weekend against Western Sydney Wanderers undefeated.

Alex Brosque: “We really needed the three points. It was good, it was a tough game especially after Newcastle’s good win last week we knew they were going to be tough but we dug deep and got the three points and we move on.
“From the 60th minute the game really started to open up and I think our players behind the strikers started to get more ball and were able to turn and cause some problems, so we were confident.
“I think the stat that we are having so many shots is good but as long as we win at the moment that’s important.”

34’ BROSQUE SHOT SAVED – Ball forward is headed in the air and Brosque collects before hitting it on the bounce towards goal but Birighitti catches the ball.
35’ HOFFMAN GOAL OFFSIDE – A Jets free-kick is floated to the Sydney FC far post where Hoffman heads home, however the linesman has his flag raised for offside.
40’ GRANT SHOT SAVED – Ninkovic plays a neat ball into Brosque with his back to goal. Brosque lays the ball off to Grant who has freed himself up on the left to have a clear shot on goal but Birighitti gets down low.
47’ SMELTZ SHOT SAVED – Ball played into the box from the left to Smeltz with his back to goal. He turns his defender and shoots but Birighitti gathers.
80’ SMELTZ CHANCE – Gersbach drives at the Jets defence and squares it to Blackwood who plays in Smeltz clear on goal but the striker’s chip goes over Kennedy and the bar.
86’ OFF THE POST – Brosque is released with a ball forward. He holds off the challenge of the defender and unleashes a left foot shot which bounces off the foot of the left hand post and comes
