Heralded for their defensive performances over recent games, Sydney FC showcased their vast array of attacking qualities on Saturday against the Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.
While enjoying 54.5% of possession, compared to the Phoenix’s 45.5%, the Sky Blues managed 13 shots at goal over the course of the 90 minutes compared to Wellington’s seven shots at Vedran Janjetovic’s goal.
Of those shots, six took place outside the area, seven where fired at Glen Moss from inside the box and two were blocked on their route to goal.
Further highlighting the Sky Blues’ dominance, seven corners were forced in contrast to three for the Phoenix as Sydney FC pressed for more goals following Filip Holosko’s stunning opening strike in the second half.
Holosko produced the highest number of shots out the Sky Blues starting 11, having three efforts – one from outside the area and two inside the box, including his goal.
“I thought it was an entertaining game,” Head Coach Graham Arnold said.
“I thought we were very good tonight. We made enough chances to win three or four games, we just don’t seem to be able to find the back of the net at the moment and Glen Moss pulled off a couple of good saves, but overall I’m pretty pleased. We were the better side.”
