Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow said: “I’m very pleased to be appointing John as a Director to the Sydney FC board.

“John has exceptional business acumen and a vast knowledge of corporate and commercial sales.

“His experience and range of skills in this area will enhance the composition and capabilities of our board and make him an excellent addition to the club.

“I look forward to working with him.”

The 47 year old says he is excited about joining Sydney FC and is looking forward to helping build on the club’s recent success.

“I would like to thank Scott for this great opportunity. I look forward to working with Scott, Tony and the rest of the board.

“I have supported Sydney FC since the Hyundai A-League’s inception and watched the growth and success of the club in many diverse areas including the launch of the Youth Academy and the success of the Sydney FC W-League team.

“Long term planning with a strong people culture, driven by exceptional leadership is critical for the success of any business and I look forward to contributing in building future success to the club that symbolizes Sydney.”

Simone’s appointment comes as current Board Member Jamie Samaha steps down from his role after almost five years with the club.

Samaha joined the board in May 2011 and leaves to take up a new job within the finance sector overseas.

“Jamie has played a vital role in the growth of Sydney FC and his wealth of business expertise has been a key factor in the club’s off-field success,” said Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow.

“He is enormously passionate about Sydney FC having been a member since season one and has put an enormous amount of work into helping to develop the club since joining the board in 2011.

“He leaves to take up a fantastic opportunity overseas and we wish Jamie and his family well in their future endeavours.”

Samaha will take up a role in London running a European division for MasterCard, but will remain a staunch supporter of the Sky Blues.

“I have been a Sydney FC supporter since day one and always will be sky blue,” he said.

“It has been a privilege to serve as a Sydney FC director and a pleasure to work with and meet some exceptional people along the way.

“I’m pleased to say I leave the club in fantastic shape and I believe it will only go from strength to strength under the leadership of David Traktovenko and Scott Barlow.

“I’d like to thank David Traktovenko, Scott Barlow, Tony Pignata and the Board of Directors for their on-going commitment to Sydney FC and their support during my time on the board.

“I will continue to closely follow the club from overseas and will remain as passionate as ever about Sydney FC.”
