Sydney FC shot stopper Vedran Janjetovic said he’s expecting another tough away Asian encounter as the Sky Blues bid to take top spot in group H in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Sky Blues face table toppers Pohang Steelers in Korea, and Janjetovic said he’s hopeful of taking the three points back to Sydney with the group stage of the 2016 competition reaching the halfway point.
“I’m expecting nothing less than a battle,” Janjetovic said.
“They [Pohang] had a tough draw yesterday, three all, so that would have taken a bit out of them as well.
“We’re coming to their home ground as a foreign nation and they’re looking to steal every point that they can and win every battle. We’ll go out with the same mentality and hopefully take three points.
“Another three points here would get us on the top of the table,” he continued.
“Hopefully other results go our way and we could be in a very good position with another game coming up at home. We could be in the driver’s seat if we do everything right against Pohang.
“Everyone is on a high coming here with a win in our last ACL game [against Guangzhou Evergrande] so everyone knows what to expect now. Everyone is raring to go and hopefully get another good result.”
Janjetovic travels to Korea fresh from inking a new two year deal with the Sky Blues, and 28 year old said he was pleased to be remaining at the club.
“It’s awesome to know that I’m going to stay here for another two years,” he said.
“Obviously a lot more challenges are going to come my way, but the club is heading in the right direction, we’ve got a great bunch of boys and it’s home so there’s no better place to be.
“Our fans are the best in the league, they keep you going week in week out and they’re there for you in the tough times and the best times so it’s a great thing to have with the club.
“The fans are so close as well so there’s no better place to be.”
