Max Burgess can’t wait to run out at Allianz Stadium on Sunday after soaking up the noise and passion of Sydney FC’s fans in his first appearance at our new home.
Taking three points on the road against Western United was great for his side’s motivation, however the 27-year-old from Sydney knows that with a vocal backing from Sydney FC fans, they can build momentum with a win against Adelaide United.
“It was a fantastic atmosphere during Round One. I think everyone was really excited to be back, back home at Moore Park, so we are really looking forward to this weekend and being back in front of our own fans” he said.
“This is a good opportunity for us to build momentum after the result last week and build consistency, and there is no better opportunity to do this, than against Adelaide who are often one of the most consistent sides in the competition.”
Burgess got an assist in the reverse fixture against Adelaide United last season in a 2-1 win at Coopers Stadium, and he realises the danger that they pose.
“Adelaide are always a strong team and you can look at the facts to back that up. They consistently make finals and it will be a good test for us against a good team” Burgess said.

“In the last match between us [3-2 loss], the result decided our season, so we know this match is important for us as it’s a fresh season and we’re coming into it with a clean slate.
Football is often about processes and the former Sydney Olympic junior knows how important these processes can be for a club like Sydney FC.
“It’s about us and our processes. It’s great to have confidence and build momentum, but at the same time, we’re just trying to stay moment to moment and consistent in our process and approach.
“Our mentality is purely on the process that we’ve started in pre-season this year, being as present as possible and following on from last week’s great result, we are focusing on consistency.”

As for his individual performances, Burgess knows that football is played with eleven players, not one.
“There’s team processes and individual processes. I’m just trying to get better everyday and soak up as much as I can, doing everything I can for the team.”
