Sydney FC has made a statement in the transfer market by securing the coveted signature of 29-year old forward Joe Lolley from English Premier League club Nottingham Forest.
Fans’ favourite Lolley joins the Sky Blues from the two-time European Cup winners having enjoyed promotions to the Premier League with both Forest and previous club Huddersfield Town.
The Englishman was crowned player of the season for Forest two seasons ago and has amassed over 230 games in England’s top two divisions.
The creative and dynamic winger joins the Sky Blues on a two-year deal.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining Sydney FC and to be coming to play in this amazing new stadium in the heart of Sydney,” he said.
“I know there’s a lot of expectation to win every season which is a great challenge, and they’ve got a fantastic plan in place to do that – which really attracted me to make the move.
“I really appreciate the intent shown by the club in bringing me to Sydney.
“The club expects to win and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with the lads this season.”
Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica is happy to add another quality attacking player to his squad.
“Joe’s got proven quality at a high level in England. He is the type of player we were targeting and we had to be patient to secure him,” he said.
“He brings a goal threat with his ability to cut inside and can also pick a pass.
“He’s got great energy, an amazing ability to carry the ball and works hard for the team.
“Fans love him because he gives his all. I know he was hugely popular at Nottingham Forest so I’m sure he will be here.”
Lolley was voted Nottingham Forest’s player of the season in 2018-19. He played 170 games for the club with 26 goals and 27 assists.
He moved to Forest from Huddersfield Town in January 2018 having spent four years with the Terriers.
He played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2017, during a period that saw him score 11 goals in 91 games – including a Premier League strike against West Ham.
Lolley began his professional career at Kidderminster Harriers, with his 11 goals in 28 games earning him a move to the Terriers.
