Sydney FC’s opening Westfield W-League and A-League doubleheader against Melbourne City at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on December 30 has been postponed.
With states and territories imposing border restrictions on New South Wales following the Northern Beaches COVID-19 outbreak, Melbourne City’s players and staff would need to isolate for 14 days in Victoria on their return.

It means the Grand Final rematches will now be re-scheduled for a later date which is yet to be confirmed.
“It is unfortunate as it was set to be a remarkable occasion, however we must accept the decision in the best interests of the A-League and Westfield W-League,” said Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend.
“New South Wales has some coronavirus issues right now, however if we can fulfil fixtures both here and around the country by rescheduling, then we must do what we can to achieve this.
“New South Wales continues to respond well to the recent outbreak, so we are confident the schedule will resume as planned as soon as possible.
“In the meantime, we need to respond to the current border closures and provide the appropriate notice to our Members and fans that the match needs to be postponed.”
