Sydney FC midfielder Marco Tilio is to leave the Hyundai A-League Champions.

The Sky Blues Academy product joined the club as a 14-year old having been scouted by Sydney FC Technical Director -Youth, Kelly Cross in 2015.

He progressed into the Sydney FC first team this season, scoring on his Hyundai A-League debut against Central Coast Mariners.

Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica expressed disappointment but acknowledged the high standard of competition within the squad.

ā€œWe offered Marco a contract to stay but like all our players he wants to play first team football,ā€ he said.

ā€œUnfortunately we cannot give any guarantees regarding starting spots at Sydney FC.

ā€œThey have to be earned and we have excellent competition for places in all areas.

ā€œWe have seen the likes of Joel King, Luke Ivanovic, Trent Buhagiar and Harry van der Saag break into the starting line-up in recent times and we will always give opportunities to young players who earn their chance.

ā€œWe wish Marco well for his future career.ā€

Tilio made six appearances for the Sky Blues scoring one goal.
