In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.
This week, we heard from former Sky Blue marquee Nick Carle as he hosted a live Facebook chat on Friday night.
The former Socceroo joined the Sky Blues for his first of two spells at the club in 2010, signing on a marquee deal for two seasons.
While injury hampered his first season at the club, Carle still dictated proceedings on the pitch, playing 17 times in his maiden season and scoring three goals in the process.
Season 2011/12 would prove more fruitful for the former Johnny Warren Medal winner, as he played all but two games, scoring four goals, as Sydney FC finished fifth and were eliminated in the Finals Series.
Following a loan spell to the UAE, Carle returned to Sydney FC for seasons 2013/14, in a new look Sky Blues’ squad, and he’d feature 17 times in a midfield containing Italian Legend Alessandro Del Piero, scoring a memorable goal in the club’s 5-0 demolition #BigBlue at Etihad Stadium in 2014.
An ACL injury in season 2014/15 saw Carle’s time on the pitch limited to only four games, and with persistent issues with his knee arising, the midfielder decided to call time on a glittering career in 2016.
Hear from Nick Carle:
“Everyone has that bit of good news that training can go back in small numbers, so with my current job at SD Raiders (Southern Districts Raiders) it’s trying to organise getting everyone back in as soon as possible and getting the kids on the ball again.
“I’m the head coach of the first team, but I also TD the whole men’s side of the program which is a massive job but I really enjoy it.”
